BMHC is a charitable organisation that aims to build community cohesion through interaction, support and offering training and information courses to the local population.
This beautiful building set in over 8 acres of land and less than two miles south of Manchester city centre, was originally built in 1837 for the Presbyterian Church as a teaching college. In the 1960’s was purchased by the GMB union to serve as a training college until this Grade 2 star listed gem was finally purchased by the BMHC in 2006.
Generation has been offering its services free of charge to the charity. Amongst Generation’s achievements in the last 6 years have been the obtaining of listed consent for and overseeing the sympathetic refurbishment, extension and renovation of the existing 60,000 square foot building. Generation also obtained additional permission for and oversaw the construction of, a 10,000 sq ft events space marquee.
Currently Generation is consulting on concept designs for future phases including plans for a considerable number of onsite affordable residential accommodation, a 20,000 sq ft permanent exhibition and events centre to replace the marquee and also some retail elements and redesigns of the landscaped gardens to create a destination of national significance and to increase visitor numbers and school visits fivefold to 500,000 visitors per year.
